Close Follow-Up, A Duologue

5 January – 3 April 2026

Galeri / Miz is hosting the exhibition “Close Observation, A Duologue”, curated by Gül Ilgaz, featuring works by Derya Ülker and Emel Başarık, from 5 February to 3 April 2026.

Beyond its literal meaning of a dialogue, “Close Observation, A Duologue” proposes a space where two visual approaches listen to one another and exist side by side—intertwined and in conversation.

The exhibition brings together two formally similar painting practices through two different viewing distances. While Derya Ülker depicts human crowds that resemble living networks, observed from afar and situated in vast outdoor spaces, Emel Başarık adopts a more local perspective, focusing on the everyday lives and diverse personalities of the people living in her own neighborhood.

“Close observation” is a concept related to looking, tracing, and bearing witness. This exhibition is presented as a space in which the artists closely observe the society they live in, individuals, and each other’s artistic approaches.

The contrast between crowd and individual, anonymous and personal, macro and micro forms the core structure of the exhibition. By making visible the human condition of being both part of a collective and a singular existence, “Close Observation, A Duologue” invites viewers to reconsider their own distance of looking.
